A Day in the Life of a Toddler

Today, as every other day, I got up....got my caffeine, got Irelyn her milk and turned on Sprout. My only freedom from toddler television and the early morning is my facebook page. I read about every one's lives and what all my friends are up to....then I am disturbed by my daughter yelling, "Baby! Baby!" as I look at my many friend's new babies. The morning continues of stealing tiny moments for myself around my adorable yet crazy daughter basically running circles around me. If I have to go to the bathroom, she must come in with me. However, I put my foot down when I get in the shower since she likes to play peek a boo and get herself soaked. So I leave the door open and pray the downstairs isn't completely destroyed when I get out. I am very happy by the way that my hair is now VERY short, cause it makes getting ready easier and quicker. My five to seven minute shower is my only peace besides nap time and bedtime. I look for comfort by taking her outside to play, but that usually back fires. I end up chasing after her the whole time yelling, "Come back here!", "No", "Mommy said NO!". Then as the sweat and heat overcome me, I decide its time to go inside, and of course meltdown time. I find myself bribing my daughter on my more insane days by saying, " Want a lollipop?!". Then of course comes lunch time which consists of one of her three meals: Mac and Cheese, Chicken nuggets or fish sticks and fruit. However the process of eating is usually a beg a plea to finish even half of her plate. Thankfully its about nap time! Yes! I always think to myself, " I am going to watch a movie and relax and cross stitch". Then reality hits, and I realize this is the only time I can vacuum without her trying to play with it, and wash the floors without screaming at her to get off them.
Afternoons: They consist of finding ways to remain sane and remind myself I am not a toddler, which usually consists of grocery shopping, going to my parents house, running errands, and going to the park/pool. My favorite is when you just had a temper tantrum battle in the parking lot and you finally get into the store and someone looks over at my daughter and says, " She is so cute! and so good!" I internally roll my eyes and hold back from saying, " Would you like her for the day?" Just kidding! Dinnertime is usually the same as lunch, and then bath time, then about 10-20 stories, then FINALLY BED! Yippee! It is mommy free time! Until reality hits me once again, and I am exhausted. Bedtime for mommy: 10pm. Redo the next day.
Although I adore being a mom and love my daughter, I am human, and I do go insane some days. I thought about making a wine glass that says, " Mother of a Toddler, Back Away!" lol. I think all mom's have that moment where they want to go out and have some drinks and cut loose, but then our practical side sits on our should saying, "Don't do that, you will be tired and you are no longer 21, just stay home". The practical side always wins, which is fine. However I wish I had money to make my house more guest friendly since all our friends know if they want to hang out at night, they have to come to us. In order to end my diary entry of my day as a mom, I have one thing to share, a quote. “The quickest way for a parent to get a child’s attention is to sit down and look comfortable.”
