I am sucker for Christmas. I have always loved the Christmas trees, lights, music, and feeling of happiness and excitement. This year is has been heightened by the presence of my little girl who is now 2 1/2 years old. When you see Christmas again through a child's eyes, you rediscover its beauty and importance. Everything seems magical (which ironically is what my daughter says every time she looks and points at our Christmas tree) and as if it was the first time you were experiencing the holidays.
Every time I pick my daughter up from my parents house during the week after work, she gets in the car and yells, "Christmas music mommy! Play Rudolph!". She and I then proceed to sing her favorite Christmas songs, and they are the most perfect moments. My husband is also a sucker for the holiday season and wanting to give our children all that we can give them. I swear we try and spend anything extra to get just one more toy for them to open. I think as children we are excited about Christmas for the obvious reasons, and as we grow it becomes a time to spend with family (especially during the college years). When we actually move out and begin to mature as adults, get married and have children, Christmas changes again for us. It always is changing, but in a good way. Its a first Christmas together as a couple, then married, then our baby's first Christmas, then our baby's second Christmas. It is an amazing time of the year where we get to grab memories and box them up to always remember.
I began the tradition with my family to get an ornament every year. The first two years were my husband and I, and the past three years have been the years my daughter has been in our lives. We also have homemade ornaments from my stepson Shawn. I love marking our special time of the year so we can always look back. Christmas will always hold magic and will always be a memory.
