Well, we have begun trial and error with the large variety of kid shows and baby DVDs for our little girl. I have a strong philosophy about the process of choosing the shows to watch and DVDs to buy....the parents have to be able to deal with them, ha ha!. I despised Tellatubies, and Barney, and will refuse to watch them or allow Irelyn to watch them either. It sounds almost selfish, but I can't handle having that on every during a day. I have bought some Baby Einstein videos, which are good, however many have labels for appropriate ages. I find if you don't follow the guideline, then they are not as interested. I personally like Baby Beethoven, and Baby Bach. Irelyn adores them and is very happy and content while watching them. I also like them because they are calming to have on (not too annoying or too upbeat, especially before a nap). However I notice she likes Elmo, but not Sesame Street. I think Sesame street is too old for her, but she loves Elmo's World.
In the new world of digital cable, we have children's shows on demand, and I have begun to try some out on her. I have found that she loves the Backyardigans, because they are full of color, and constant singing. Dora and Diego have too much talking and audience feedback for her right now, so they are not good at the moment. However on a funnier note, she loves watching sports sometimes. I think its the color and noise, but it's ironic.
I recently saw on the news some information about Baby Einstein DVDs, and how they will recall any videos you purchased in the last year and replace them with a CD. Before I explain, check out their website product promise to you by clicking here. Baby Einstein Refund,Baby Einstein Recall article can be found by clicking here. Apparently the Baby Einstein DVDs have now been shown not to stimulate your child's language and development. The company which is obviously now in PR crisis mode, has offered many options to return DVDs, and Cd's to exchange for different items or receive a refund.
On a personal note, I think this is somewhat ridiculous. Yes we want our children to develop and learn and become smarter. Honestly though, a study proves these DVDs don't make your child a genius, big surprise. I mean does anything for that matter prove to make your child smarter or of genius status? I think this study has gotten out of hand, and I think the baby Einstein videos are very soothing, and entertaining for babies. There is nothing out there like them, and regardless of their findings, my daughter enjoys them and will continue to watch them.
Love the blog's new look! Very sweet!
