Molly's Baby Product Guide for Newborns

My girlfriend suggested that I take my knowledge and share it my advice and learning's through my blog. Well I have a lot to say about buying certain baby items that worked and didn't work for us. Lets face it, baby products are not cheap and it does help to hear from free advice on what worked and did not work for people. I will cover all the basics as they applied to us....since I did not breastfeed, I cannot give any advice on those products. I just feel like there are so many products and honestly they all do not work as well as you anticipate they will. I have to begin with my first one that drove me nuts! Baby bath tubs.

Baby Bath Tubs:

I found a good website that explains what you need to find specifically for baby bath tubs http://www.thecradle.com/browseandshop/productguide_bathtubs It provides the basic needs for bathtub through the young ages.

My mother and I got our first bathtub when I was pregnant which is shown below, and it was not effective at all for us. It is not the exact model, but similar and it was awful for newborns. You are forced to buy a sponge for the tub to keep them from sliding and slamming into the sides. Then you have to wring out the sponge, etc, (which is very annoying if you are limited on space)

After our experience, we got a bathtub from a friend, which worked much better which is listed below, it was the Summer Infant bath tub. I personally bath my baby in the tub because we have a small kitchen and sink. This held her better which out the fear she would slip and slide.

The most important baby item you can buy is the bouncy seat! It is the only way mom's can get showers and have a moment without holding the baby. It is also nice because you can carry it around the house while you clean or do laundry and bring the baby with you. Of course it is my baby's front seat for the television when she watched Baby Einstein and Elmo too. However, I have noticed as they grow, the bouncy seat must be entertaining or they will loose interest very quickly. My girlfriend was kind enough to share hers with me, which was a god sent item.

Baby Entertainment:

Fisher-Price Rainforest Bouncer

This bouncy seat is amazing! My daughter adores it and is entertained for a long period of time. Its neat cause you can play the music non stop or you can change it so when they move the hanging animals it makes noise. Its great when they start grabbing and kicking, because they get so proud of themselves. Its a little costly but well worth the cost.

The next item may seem like any swing, but they have the swings now that cradle swing and then covert to a regular swinging motion. Every baby is different, but my baby only liked the cradle swing position for a long time. I also thinks it helps me go to sleep, especially if your baby is fussy and likes the swing but in desperate need of a nap.

Infant Items:

This item was the only thing that helped my daughter calm herself especially during her reflux stages, and sleep. It is a must need item for babies in my opinion. In the book, "The Happiest Baby on the Block", it explains that babies should truly be in the womb for another trimester (which nature obviously will not allow). It talks about the 5 S's which include swaddling. The book continues to say how import it is for infants to feel womb like, and the Swaddler blank makes it so easy. In my opinion, no one can swaddle with the skill of the hospital nurses. It is a must have for all babies. Kiddopotamus SwaddleMe Adjustable Infant Cotton Wrap

In addition to the swaddler, you can also emulate the same affect with the baby sling, which is really nice if you want to walk around with your infant on you. It also helped calm my baby and get her to sleep. When they can hold up their heads better, you can use the baby Bjorn. Which can also be used when they are infants, but the sling holds them more like a swaddler, close to you.
