Do you have a baby on board sticker?

I think that many people have underestimated the "Baby on Board" sticker on your car. I will never say I am a perfect driver, as a matter of fact I feel I get more road rage now more than ever. However I become enraged with anger when people make conscious stupid driving moves knowing I have a baby in the car. I feel that when I react with an ugly look or throwing up an arm that I am completely justified. Why? Because I have my "Baby on Board" sticker on my car. I feel that it gives me leverage when driving out with my baby to be annoyed if someone drives recklessly. I am not implying it is okay to drive like a maniac if you don't have a baby in the car, or that driving recklessly around anyone is okay. I actually believe this sticker alerts people into thinking about the moves they make when behind the wheel. I find this entire concept interesting though, because the signs on the road that alert you to slow down, and be alert are ignored, yet the baby on board sticker seems to usually work. Why is that? Are babies more important than all the other drivers on the road (well mine is! Lol)? This sticker kind of holds a double standard, where it works to help alert people, and when it doesn't work it angers people.
I have decided that it goes back to the concept that babies are small, cute and adorable. I know that sounds very generic and almost ridiculous, but that is what people think of when they think of babies. The word baby is actually an adjective, noun and verb. If I were to randomly ask someone what came to mind when they heard the word baby, I would probably hear; small, cute, precious, crying, lots of work, etc. So the sticker throws these adjectives into people's minds and they begin to become alert whether they realize it or not. This one little sticker has that affect on people, yet street signs don't seem to be as effective. Isn't that interesting? I have actually had a friend tell me recently that she was going to purchase one because it makes her so angry that people would drive recklessly around her while her son was in the car. Just some food for thought...

  1. Is a baby's life any more or less valuable than any other person's?
