Are women only into fashion, make-up and sex?

I recently got a subscription to Glamour (via frequent flyer miles), and I began to realize something...I am bored reading it. Its not because I am not into fashion, make-up, or glamour....but lets get serious. Who can afford to buy all new clothes every season, that cost a fortune. That goes the same for make-up, I mean I guess if your single and a working girl you can afford to get new make-up and do your eyes up everyday. I feel like also though, that the parent magazines don't cater too much towards women's interests and needs also. I mean yes, I am always interested in parenting information and the latest toys, health issues, etc. However when they try to do fashion or make up (which is brief), it's not done too well.
However, if you do look at your magazine cascade at the grocery store, all the magazines advertise the same topics-Glamour, fashion, make-up, sex, how to please your man, and of course dieting! I feel like its a frown on what our country thinks woman are in society. If I could create my own magazine it would include the following...
-Info on make up thats affordable and truly amazing (something small and brief)
-An update on fashion, but how to do it on a low budget
-Stories about strong women, mothers and the history of women
-Ideas how to make your home up for the season
-Fun things to do on the weekend with your hubby
-Cool new websites
-Cooking ideas, ideas on hobby's etc.
-How to deal with your family! lol
I kind of life martha stewart magazine because they have great pictures and ideas, but its too expensive and the ideas are too expensive. These days if your a working woman, mother or stay at home mom, who has time to buy five different magazines for each topic you want to read and read them all? People is great on gossip and TV shows, but again a little boring, because you can get some of news info already if you watch the news or read a newspaper.
I just feel like the major magazines such as Cosmo, Glamour and Marie Claire are lacking. I never get Vogue because that is some serious fashion which I am no longer into. Also on another note, the models in a lot of "magazines for women" are ridiculous. I mean seriously! Do we all look like that? I could get together twenty friends and none of us would look like those models, and all my friends are pretty amazing looking. I am not trying to be a feminist, but young girls today are dealing with many more image issues than I did growing up. I cannot imagine what my daughter will be surrounded and slammed by when she hits her teens. If a teenage girl looks at these magazines they are going to think that is what women are all about, which they are not. It already freightens me on the outfits that young girls wear today, I think its great when they are all cutely dressed in fashion, but the skirts and shorts are soo short!
I dress kind of preppy, Gap, Old Navy, Target, TJMaxx, Marshall's, American Eagle....all depending on the money situation. I wouldn't consider myself a dork, but seriously, all of these issues concern me. Please share your comments, I am interested in to see everyone's reaction.

  1. Ok, I just read the magazines you gave me - NO ONE relates to them unless they have some secret stock in Apple or a sugar daddy. (Or are a pop princess!) Seriously - there were just pages upon pages of fashion spreads that were pointless. I never bought them before, and only ever stole them from the doctor's office if I wanted an article or haircut image. If you SERIOUSLY think back - and not just think of how drastically things have changed from pre-baby to post-baby - you'll remember that you are still the same Molly, just with a little one and a shift in priorities (and bigger boobs)!
