If you ever search through your cable guide for TV shows for your baby, toddler or child to watch, you will notice many choices. If you jump back to when our generation was younger, the selection was less and the shows seemed simpler. I have found their are many categories; real people with puppets, just puppets, animation/songs, strictly educational and some just animated stories. I was curious to see what TV shows were the most popular via google, and PBS seems to rank in the top five. I personally am subjected to PBS Sprout because my daughter loves "Play with me Sesame". PBS also airs a morning show called, "The Good Morning Show" with bits of three rotating hosts with Chica the chick as the co-host. It also airs mini episodes of Thomas, Play with me Sesame, Roary the Racing Car, etc. Then in addition they have a "Goodnight Show". My daughter doesn't care for all the shows because she is too young, but I think PBS Sprout is a good channel to watch. The Backyardigans are another favorite, and occasionally Dore the Explorer. The downside is that Disney, and Nick also feature older shows for preteens and teenagers, where as Sprout is all around good for a wide span age group all day long.
I personally was a child who loved Mr. Rodgers, Sesame Street, The Muppet Show and Fraggle Rock. I almost feel the intense animation is overkill, especially for younger children. I am curious though what are your opinions on your children's TV shows and which ones have you found that you enjoy? Please leave a comment on my blog and let me know.
