I have reached that point in motherhood where I am torn between tough love and soothing my baby girl. At 2am in the morning when she wakes screaming for her bottle, or her binky, what do you do? I know we need to let her cry (as my doctor suggested) to learn how to soothe herself back to sleep and know that mommy won't come running into her room. I never thought this would be so hard? It is hard for any mom to hear her baby cry, but on top of it, we are talking about sleep deprivation. Its also hard to judge when a good time is to begin this process since she has cut her first tooth and is about the cut another. I don't want her screaming in pain, and any mother knows how hard it is to hear them cry. I am determined now that I feel better from my cold, to embark on this soon....maybe this weekend. My husband has crazy hours and usually isn't home till around 11pm at night. He usually does her midnight screaming/feeding and I get up with her for the rest of the night, and sometimes she makes it till morning after 12:30 feeding. It all depends on her I guess. I just feel like my sleep patterns have retracted back to the newborn state, lol. My mommy friend's have been very helpful with these suggestions for teeth;
-Hyland's teeth tablets
-Tylenol
-She loves cold teeth chewies
-Distraction with Elmo DVD's (that is when I am loosing sanity)
Her first tooth has cut and is coming up, and boy it hurts now when she chomps on my fingers.
In addition I break out the "What to Expect the First Years" and I try and pinpoint the milestones she should be hitting, and as any mother I panic. She goes January 5 for her sixth month check and shots....so I am anxious to see her weight and height and get some one on one with her amazing doctor who makes my anxiety diminish.
In addition, since she has acid reflux, my child lives in bibs because she is constantly spitting up and drooling. I have one compliant about bibs....they are cloth and get soaked so fast! she is not ready for plastic toddler bibs, so the bib companies need to come up with some solution. Anyway- More to come on this bumpy and eventually smooth road of my growing baby!
